①,Weight Reference DIN 6914-1989 ②,Material: Steel General requirements: EN 14399-1 and EN 14399-2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thread: Tolerance Class: 6g [a] International standards: ISO 261, ISO 965-2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mechanical Properties: Strength Class: 10.9 European Standard: EN ISO 898-1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tolerances: Product class: C (except for the dimensions c and r). Tolerance for layers ≥ 155 mm: + IT17 ~ -1/2IT17 European Standard: EN ISO 4759-1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finish - Coating [b]: Uncoated: As produced [c] Hot-dip Galvanized: EN ISO 10684 Other: To be agreed [d] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Surface Integrity: Limits for surface defects are specified in EN 26157-1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Acceptance Test: The acceptance test is subject to EN ISO 3269. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- a, The tolerance class specified applies to bolts without or before any coating. Hot-dip galvanized bolts are intended for assembly with nuts tapped oversize to 6AZ. b, Attention is drawn to the need to consider the risk of hydrogen embrittlement in the case of bolts of property class 10.9, when selecting an appropriate surface tr.eatment process (e.g. cleaning and coating), see the relevant coating standards. c, "As processed" means the normal finish resulting from manufacture with a light coating of oil. d, Other coatings may be negotiated between the purchaser and the manufacturer provided they do not impair the mechanical properties or the functional characteristics. Coatings of cadmium or cadmium alloys are not permitted. |
About Hex Head Screws and Bolts
Understanding Threading
Fully threaded screws engage with a tapped, threaded hole all the way to the head. Choose these when sideways force is not a concern.
Partially threaded screws have an unthreaded portion under the head for more holding power when force is applied from the side. The unthreaded portion is stronger than the threaded portion of the screw. Thread length may vary from the minimum thread length published to fully threaded.
Understanding Thread Size
Inch
Inch thread sizes are specified by diameter and threads per inch. Diameter is also known as screw size. For those with a diameter smaller than 1/4", screw size is indicated by a number (e.g., #10 or No. 10).
Metric
Metric thread sizes are specified by diameter and pitch, which is the space between threads. For the size M6 × 1 mm, the pitch is coarse; while the size M6 × 0.75 mm has a fine pitch. If you don't know the pitch, choose coarse threads; they're the industry standard.
Comparing Materials by Strength and Corrosion Resistance
Use this chart to compare the trade-offs between strength and corrosion resistance in different environments.
